The Amerigroup Foundation presented Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans with a $10,000 grant to assist with the organization’s ongoing Hurricane Isaac relief activities in the southern parishes.

“The Foundation recognizes the spirited effort of Catholic Charities in this period of hardship for Louisiana communities,” said George Bucher, Amerigroup Louisiana chief executive officer. “I am pleased the Foundation is supporting their great work to provide food and shelter to those most affected and to help them rebuild their lives.”

Catholic Charities continues to assist the underprivileged and vulnerable, providing services such as crisis counseling, case management and coordination to those suffering the effects of the hurricane.

“We deeply appreciate the generous support of the Foundation as we continue the extensive work of helping individuals rebuild their homes and lives after the devastation of Isaac,” said Gordon Wadge, chief executive officer of Catholic Charities. “The gift allows us to help provide homes, meals, school supplies for children in need, and crisis counseling and support for those in distress.”

In addition to the Foundation gift, Amerigroup Louisiana associates joined forces with Second Harvest Food Bank to collect donations immediately after the hurricane; and is currently partnering with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to donate school supplies to Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School in LaPlace.

The Amerigroup Foundation has donated more than $15.1 million in grants to organizations that work to provide services to underserved communities and to improve the quality of life by providing support and care in times of need.
