ST. JAMES — St. James’ bid to avoid a second consecutive winless season fell just short Friday night, as Donaldsonville picked up a 12-6 District 7-3A victory over the Wildcats in the season’s final week.

Leandre James’ 2-yard touchdown pass to Stephen Sullivan proved to be the game-winner with 4:34 left in regulation.

The Wildcats (0-9, 0-5) led for much of the night, Seth Keller’s 1-yard touchdown run staking SJH out to a 6-0 first quarter  lead after a 50-yard drive on its opening possession.

St. James fell just short of extending its lead to 12 or 13-0 when a fourth-and-goal pass from D’kwan Sandolph to Seth Keller came up two-yards short at the Donaldsonville 2.

SJH led 6-0 at halftime, but Tigers’ quarterback Leandre James led Donaldsonville (2-8, 1-4) to tie things up, 6-6, on his own 10-yard touchdown run that capped a 55-yard opening drive in the third quarter.

Keller led St. James with 68 rushing yards on 13 carries. Claude Lewis rushed 12 times for 53 yards. Fabian Steib caught two passes for 21 for SJH.

James passed for 101 yards and rushed for 82 more on 22 carries, accounting for most of Donaldsonville’s offense. Jaquel Grant caught five passes for 56 yards.
