Recently, members of the cluster parishes of St. Michael, St. Joseph and Most Sacred Heart of Jesus gathered on the grounds of the Knights of Columbus home to recite the rosary.
Leading the group in prayer this year were CDA members: Janet Small, opening prayers; Nancy Cashio, Joyful Mysteries; Amanda Doucet, Luminous Mysteries, Harriet Melancon, Sorrowful Mysteries; and Audrey Vicknair, Glorious Mysteries.
The rosary was started at noon, which is near the time the miracle of the sun took place in Fatima in 1917. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the apparitions in Fatima. The rosary is said outdoors in an effort to allow the public to see the rosary being said. Saint Louis de Montfort states “Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His Mercy and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering.”
The America Needs Fatima campaign organized over 7,515 Rosary Rallies in 2011. They were hoping for 8,000 this year. That goal was reached and exceeded in towns across America and in 35 foreign countries. Members and volunteers of America Needs Fatima held a record-breaking 9,077 Public Rosary rallies.
