Melvin J. “Mr. Mel” Powell, 68, passed away Wednesday Oct. 3, 2012.

He was the beloved husband of Kathleen “Kat” Roussel Powell, son of the late Melvin and Nellie Trepagnier Powell and brother of Gene (Mary), Billy (Barbara) and Garland (Cindy) Powell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He retired from Union Carbide and was a native and a resident of LaPlace.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend services. Visitation will be at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 529 W. Fifth St., LaPlace, on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, followed by Mass at noon. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve. In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred. Arrangements are by Millet-Guidry Funeral Home of LaPlace.
