Presidential election is tearing America apart

Only 70 days left before America elects the man who will serve as our president for the next four years. As much as I enjoy the political process in choosing our leaders, this year the campaign has turned many voters off. This election has divided our country more than any other in my lifetime.
As a registered Democrat the people of St. John elected me to serve in the Louisiana Legislature. I’ll always be grateful for that opportunity. Since then, I’ve registered as
a Republican but vote independen-tly.
Why a Republican? Because their platform is against abortion and same-sex marriage. Which lines up with the teachings of Jesus Christ. I have never voted for anyone who has opposite views on these two issues and never will.
Getting back to one of the ugliest campaigns in my lifetime, I think both candidates would be wise to concentrate on the following written by Abraham Lincoln:
TEN CANNOTS
“You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.”
“You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.”
“You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.”
“You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.”
“You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.”
“You cannot keep out of trouble
by spending more than your income.”
“You cannot further the brotherhood of many by inciting class hatred.”
“You cannot establish security on borrowed money.”
“You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence.”
By the way, President Lincoln was a Republican.
