If you’ve never met Ched Edler, I’m sure that you have seen his name on a Latter & Blum real estate sign. Ched is one of the most successful real estate agents in the River Parishes. In fact, since 1990, he has been the leading agent in the LaPlace office.      

Ched grew up in Reserve with my children. He was always quiet, polite and respectful of authority. He wasn’t the valedictorian or salutatorian of his graduating class, nor was he the class president. He loved sports and still does. He played baseball in high school but was never a starter.  

One summer he went out for the American Legion team. The coach almost cut him from the team, but I encouraged the coach to keep him. Ched didn’t get to play in many games.  In fact, if he batted five times that was plenty.

Regardless of his lack of playing time, he took his role as a team player seriously. He never complained and was always one of the first players at practice and at the games. That was a long time ago.

In the early ‘90s, when Ched first began to be recognized for his accomplishments, I met him one day at a local store. I congratulated him and told him I was proud of him. He thanked me for the encouragement and added, “You’ve been a big part of my success.” A little surprised, I asked, “How?” “I remember that you talked the coach into not cutting me,” he answered. “I had an opportunity to play with some good players like Louis Lipps, “Boogie” LeBlanc, Hoyt Parquet and the Carter brothers. I had a great summer! It helped a boy like me become a man.”

Ched is married to Tina, and they have three boys. He has been a good husband and a positive role model as a father.  

Seven years ago, he and John Swafford teamed up to distribute 500+ meals on Thanksgiving Day to the less fortunate in our community. He realizes that the secret to living is giving.

What makes Ched successful? It is said that if a man finds a job he loves, he never has to work. If you know Ched, it’s evident that he loves his chosen profession.  He is one of the most disciplined men that I know and is a marketing genius. He never misses an opportunity to get his name in

front of potential clients. He sends cards for all occasions, and his

magnetic football schedules for the Saints, LSU and Tulane football games are always appreciated.  He is also an active supporter of all high school sports and one of the most outstanding men in our parish.

It’s been exciting to see Ched use his God-given talents and become the man that he is.
