Even the smallest light can be seen

Regardless of how positive a person is, I’m sure we all get discouraged at times because of the condition of the world. As Christians,

we shouldn’t be surprised because the Bible predicts that in the

last days the world will be in turmoil.

In Romans l: 18-32, Paul talks about depravity on display. It’s an account of human wickedness, unleashed unrighteousness, unashamed godlessness and unnatural lust. I have to admit that I sometimes feel like there is not hope for America. I then have to remember that God’s Word says we are to be a light in this dark world.

Regardless of how dim our light is, it will be noticed in dark places. I’m reminded of a great example of this that I heard years ago.

Imagine Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night with 92,000 fans in the stadium, and at halftime you were standing midfield with all the lights turned off. If you stuck a match, regardless of how small everyone could see the light.

Last week, Mr. Paul Gil and I had coffee, and he handed me a prayer to read. It describes the condition of our country. Please allow me to share it with you.

“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.

We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!”
