LAPLACE — Jeffrey Hall and Laura Hane were honored as St. Charles Catholic’s Mr. Comet and Miss Comet respectively at the school’s recent athletic banquet.
The “Mr. and Miss Comet” awards are selected based on a points system where a student-athlete’s score is cumulatively added up throughout their high school tenure. It takes into account athletic and academic accomplishments as well as character and leadership displayed while at SCC.
Hall earned the honor after a standout career as a football and baseball player with the Comets. He was L’Observateur’s selection as St. John Parish’s Defensive Player of the Year after he intercepted nine passes and helped anchor the Comets’ defense and pave the way for the school’s first ever state football championship.
Hall played defensive back as a senior, wide receiver as a junior and running back as a sophomore, showing to be one of the team’s most versatile players.
On the baseball diamond, Hall played centerfield and earned All-State honorable mention status as a junior after a season in which he hit over .400.
Hall signed earlier this year to play football at the University of Colorado.
“He’s a guy with a great personality and who’s very outgoing. People enjoy being around Jeffrey,” said St. Charles athletic director Frank Monica. “He flourished as both an athlete and a student here.
Hane is also going to the next level after signing in April with Louisiana College on a soccer scholarship. She also stood out in track and field, cross country and swimming.
Hane was one of the cornerstones of a St. Charles offensive soccer attack last season that ranked among the most productive in program’s history. She went out with flare, scoring two goals in her final game with the Comets.
On the track, Hane was a distance runner who specialized in the 1600.
“She’s just a good kid. When you look at her body of work in soccer, cross country … she earned a ton of awards,” said Monica. “She has a really positive attitude, someone that will do whatever you ask her to do to help out. She really embodies exactly what we want out of our students here.
“We’re really happy for both of them. They’ve certainly earned this.”
