HAHNVILLE — Residents and business owners in the River Parishes who would like a better understanding of statewide building codes are invited to an informational workshop Monday evening presented by the South Central Regional Construction Code Council.

The council, which is a branch of the South Central Planning and Development commission, will hold an information session in St. Charles Parish, in the council chambers at the parish courthouse, 15045 River Road in Hahnville.

The presentation is intended to give parish employees, administrators and elected officials, as well as builders and homeowners building their own homes in the region a better explanation of how the building code process works.

“Building codes are an aspect of Planning and Zoning that can become complicated,” St. Charles Parish Planning and Zoning Director Kimberly Marousek said. “By providing access to experts on the subject, we hope to arm parish employees and citizens alike with the information they need to make informed decisions and stay within the code guidelines.”

The session will begin at 5 p.m. with a short presentation to provide a general understanding of the permitting, plan review and inspection process. Immediately following, participants will be able to have their questions answered about specific code issues they have that might need clarification.
