LAPLACE – A LaPlace man accused of firing gunshots at a vehicle occupied by his girlfriend and two other people was arrested Monday on attempted second-degree murder charges, according to the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office.
No one was injured in the shooting, which took place May 20 on Joe Parquet Circle in LaPlace, said Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. He said the alleged gunman, Nathaniel Gregoire, 17, of Redbud Street, turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division Monday morning.
According to a report on the shooting, deputies met with the three victims just after 7:30 p.m. on May 20. The female driver of a black Chevrolet Tahoe and male front seat passenger were on Joe Parquet Circle picking up a female friend, who got into a rear passenger seat.
As they were leaving the neighborhood, the boyfriend of the female passenger, later identified as Gregoire, flagged down the driver to stop and yelled at the female passenger to get out the car.
With a handgun in his hand, Gregoire attempted to strike the female passenger, Clement said. As the driver drove away, Gregoire fired several shots striking the vehicle. All three occupants of the vehicle were able to identify Gregoire as the shooter. Detectives obtained a judicial arrest warrant for Gregoire on May 21.
After surrendering to authorities, Gregoire was booked with three counts of attempted second-degree murder. He is being held at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace on a $450,000 bond.
