LAPLACE – A Memorial Day tradition in the River Parishes continues Friday morning with the 12th annual Get High on Life Memorial Day Breakfast in LaPlace.

The breakfast begins at 8 a.m. at the St. Joan of Arc Church Knights of Columbus Hall, 346 Fir St., LaPlace. All local veterans in the region and their families are invited to attend. The event will honor all veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

Get High on Life leader Harold Keller said last year’s event drew more than 200 people who were entertained by patriotic music from a jazz quartet, brief testimonies from veterans and family members and a good meal.

“We are starting to lose more veterans in this region, and we need to do what we can to honor those who are living and those who have passed on,” Keller said. “Memorial Day gives us a long weekend, but it also gives us a chance to reflect on those men and women who sacrificed so much for the country.”
