Louis Joseph reappointed to Port Commission

BATON ROUGE – Gov. Bobby Jindal announced the reappointment of Louis Joseph of Edgard to the Port of South Louisiana Commission.
Joseph is employed with Dow Chemical Company. Joseph will be reappointed to serve as a member appointed by the governor from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, the Louisiana AFL-CIO, the Southern University River Parishes Alumni Association and the River Region Chamber of Commerce, as required by statute.
The commission serves to regulate the commerce and traffic using the public facilities administered by the port within the port area which includes St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes. According to statute, the commission is comprised of seven members that serve a term concurrent to that of the governor. One member is appointed by the parish president from each parish within the territorial jurisdiction of the port and must be confirmed by two-thirds of the members of the respective parish council. The three members selected by the parish presidents are selected from nominations, which includes nominations by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Louisiana AFL-CIO, the Southern University River Parishes Alumni Association, the River Region Chamber of Commerce, the River Parishes Chemical Industry Council, the Grain Elevator and Processing Society, the Greater New Orleans Barge Fleeting Association and the New Orleans and the Baton Rouge Pilots Association.
Additionally, two members are appointed by the governor from nominations that include one nominee from each parish located within the territorial jurisdiction of the port submitted to him by each of the following organizations: the Louisiana Farm Bureau, the Louisiana AFL-CIO, the Southern University River Parishes Alumni Association and the River Region Chamber of Commerce. One member is appointed by the governor from nominations that include one nominee from each parish located within the territorial jurisdiction of the port submitted to him by each of the following organizations: the River Parishes Chemical Industry Council, the Grain Elevator and Processing Society, Greater New Orleans Barge Fleeting Association and the New Orleans and Baton Rouge Port Pilots Association. One member who resides within the territorial jurisdiction of the port is appointed by the governor to serve at-large. Each appointment is submitted to the Senate for confirmation.
