PATTERSON — Riverside did not field a full team Monday at  the Central Catholic High School Invitational at the Atchafalaya at Idlewild golf course, but Rebel players Sean Flynn and Cory Costanza represented the school at the event as RA gears up for the Class 2A regional tournament.

Flynn finished fifth at the event, posting a score of 79. Costanza finished with a score of 91.

“It is a very difficult golf course even with great playing conditions as we had today,” said Riverside coach Roy Aubert.

Flynn posted a strong front nine score of 38 and a back nine score of 41. He finished strong, posting par on the final three holes of the day.

Costanza posted a front nine score of 45 and a back nine score of 46.

Atchafalaya at Idlewild is the site of this year’s Class 2A state tournament next month, and Aubert said that the experience would be good for two of his team leaders.

“At least two of our guys will know the course and what to expect from it,” said Aubert. “So that’s valuable in itself.”

St. Charles Catholic also competed at the event. The Comets were led by Lance Perrilloux’s score of 88. Dalton Landry shot 100. Jason Andrepont (123), Michael Bosarge (130) and Emile Cupit (132) rounded out the Comet competitors.

SCC’s Cameron Torres, the team’s second best scorer on the season, was not available to play, which Zeringue said had an affect. But he said that the Comets got what he felt they needed out of the experience.

“We performed about as I expected,” said SCC coach Gary Zeringue. “We played there at state in 2008, so I knew what to expect, but my players did not. It’s a very beautiful, but very challenging course.

“The important thing is that it prepares us for state, first of all. Secondly, it’s 18 holes and we hadn’t played one of those matches this year.

And finally, it’s good to get up early and travel with the team, to get used to that. We’ll be traveling again soon, to Lakewood and Zachary.”
