LAPLACE – A 55-year-old Edgard man working on his vehicle at a gas station died Friday when the vehicle shifted forward and trapped him underneath, according to a release from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were called to Jif’s Gas Station on Louisiana Highway 3127 at 4:20 p.m. Friday. On arrival they found Derrick A. Barre of East Sixth Street in Edgard lying under a truck that was parked in the rear of the gas station. Emergency responders removed him from under the truck, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said investigators observed no physical evidence of foul play and the death appears to be accidental. He said the investigation is ongoing and results of an autopsy are pending.
