RESERVE — Riverside finished a successful run at the South Beauregard tournament over the weekend, winning two out of three games against perennial playoff contenders.

The Rebels downed Kinder, 11-1, and DeRidder, 5-2, while falling in a 1-0 pitcher’s duel to Sulphur.

“I was happy with the way we performed overall,” said Riverside coach Kristy Hebert. “I thought we got our bats going. Over the past couple of weeks, I felt like we were in a bit of a slump, that we weren’t quite on target offensively. We came out the first night against Kinder and had 13 hits, so I was very happy to see that.”

Against Kinder, Riverside made its biggest waves in the second and fourth innings, where the Rebels scored four and five runs respectively. RA finished things in the fifth inning by the 10-run rule.

Taylor Terrio had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two triples, a double and four RBIs. Katie Bailey was also extremely productive, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Destin Vicknair was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. She started the game on the mound and tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight over five innings.

Against DeRidder, the Rebels scored four in the third inning to key their 5-2 victory.

Terrio went 3-for-4 with a double. Vicknair was 2-for-3 with a double.

Vicknair went the complete game, allowing five hits and a run over seven innings. She struck out 10.

The game against Sulphur was just one run cross — a sixth inning solo home run for the Golden Tornadoes proved the difference.

Vicknair went eight innings and allowed four hits and walked one. She struck out eight.

“(The tournament) was a good test for us. We saw some good pitching, the best obviously the girl from Sulphur,” said Hebert. “Ultimately you just hope these are the games that prepare you for what you’ll see in the playoffs.”

The Rebels added their 16th victory this week with a 15-0 win over district foe Carver. The Rebels scored 15 runs in the first inning and ended it via the 15-run rule in three innings.

Riverside was slated for a big district showdown Tuesday against Curtis at Riverside. That game was scheduled after press time, but details will be in Saturday’s edition.ꆱ
