When making a decision, how many times have you heard to let your conscience be your guide? Christians are all given the knowledge or sense of right and wrong with an urge to do right.  

We are all flesh and blood, and our physical body will one day die. Our spirit that lives in us will live forever, however. In Romans, Chapter 8, the Bible warns Christians not to walk after the flesh but after the Spirit. Our flesh continually is in battle with our spirit, and when the flesh wins, we sin and do not please God.  

We have a choice if we are to live in the flesh or the Spirit. In Galatians, Chapter 5, we are warned of the results of the works of the flesh as compared to the fruit of the Spirit. It’s a battle that we all fight and must win if we are to be a witness in our Christian walk.

I’m reminded of the following story I heard about an old Cherokee chief as he shared with his grandson:

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.

“One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

“The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

God gives us a choice. We must let our conscience be our guide.
