LAPLACE – Lance Perrilloux shot under 40 in each of St. Charles’ first two golf matches of the year, leading the Comets to a win 205-210 win over John Curtis and a tie for second with Riverside in a match against E.D. White, 172-192-192.
“I’m really excited to see Lance get off to such a strong start in his senior year,” said St. Charles coach Gary Zeringue. “He’s leading a very young team. We’ve got a smaller roster than usual, and four of our guys have never played.
“But this is what Lance does. He’s a year-round golfer, and I couldn’t be happier for him.”
Perrilloux shot 38 against Curtis, while teammates Dalton Landry (54) Jason Andreport (56) and Emile Cupit (59) rounded out the Comet scorers. Perrilloux sank two birdies in the match.
Two freshman teammates, Landry and Cupit, each finished with one birdie.
“That was very good to see,” Zeringue said.
The Comets improved their team score dramatically in their second match of the season, shaving off 13 points to finished tied with Riverside with 192.
“I didn’t expect to see that kind of a jump so quickly. I thought, given our inexperience, we’d struggle to break 200,” Zeringue said. “To have seen my team play a couple of times and to see how much they’ve improved already, if we keep it up we’ve got a chance to exceed expectations. Perrilloux scored 39, tied for the best score of the match with E.D. White’s Zane Andrews. Cameron Torres added 48, Dalton Landry and Jason Andreport each scored 52.
For Riverside, Cory Costanza led the way with a 42. Deuce Wallace shot a 44, Sean Flynn a 50 and Austin Glidden a 56.
Zeringue said that losing to E.D. White and their top gun Andrews brought no shame, as he believes E.D. White will be the team to beat in the Class 3A regional field St. Charles looks to later this season.
“They’re a very strong program, year in and year out. Hands down, they’ll be the team to beat,” he said. “So even to lose 174-194, it’s respectable. We’ve got some things to build upon.”
