The majority of the people that live in St. John the Baptist Parish have lived in the state of Louisiana all their life. • Louisiana state tree – Cypress tree

• Louisiana state bird – Brown Pelican

• Louisiana state flower – Magnolia – The Louisiana Legislature in 1900 voted to make the magnolia the state flower.

• Louisiana state fish – White Perch also known as sac-a-lait

• Louisiana state mammal – Black bear

• Louisiana state reptile – Alligator

• Louisiana state dog – Catahoula Leopard dog also known as the Catahoula Cur. This was voted on in 1979 to become the state dog.

• Louisiana state crustacean – Crawfish

• Louisiana state fruit – Strawberry

• Louisiana state vegetable – Sweet Potato

• Louisiana state vegetable plant – Creole Tomato

• Louisiana state jellies – Cane jelly and May haw jelly

• Louisiana state Meat pie – Natchitoches meat pie

• Louisiana state cuisine – Gumbo
