ST. MARTIN

Charles “Challo” Joseph St. Martin Sr., 81, a native and resident of LaPlace, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Doris Kugler St. Martin, and six children, Diane S. Cancienne (Reid) of Raceland, Charles J. St. Martin Jr. of Prairieville, Kenneth St. Martin of LaPlace, Jane S. Vicknair (Robin) of LaPlace, Mary S. Holmes (Matt) of Hammond and Jon St. Martin (Liane) of Paulina. He is also survived by one brother, Gerard St. Martin and wife Louise, of Lafayette, and one sister, Marie Terese Richhart of Mooresville, Ind.

He leaves behind 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Peter Emile St. Martin, his parents, Peter B. and Lizette Labarre St. Martin, brothers Peter and Roland St. Martin and sisters Lynette St. Martin, Leah S. Soulier and Delphine S. Flynn and mother and father-in-law Emile and Blanche O. Kugler

He retired from Freeport Sulfur in Convent. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force of the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Knight of Columbus no. 5935. He was a loyal member of the St. Charles Catholic High Athletic Program. He was a resident of the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Andy St. Martin and the staff of the Southeast Lousiana War Veterans Home and all that visited him.

In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services. Visitation will be at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 W. Airline Highway, LaPlace, on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Memorial Gardens in LaPlace.
