LAPLACE – With the excess of Carnival time now in the rear view, residents of the River Parishes seem to have a focus on healthier eating habits during the 40 day Lenten season.

Given multiple options in last week’s L’Observateur online poll, the majority of participants, nearly 40 percent, said they would be swearing off sweets and fatty foods as a sacrifice during Lent.

The next closest vote getters, smoking and alcoholic beverages, combined to garner about 30 percent of the vote. Less than five percent opted to swear off swearing and other foul language for their Lenten sacrifice.

Complete results of this week’s poll are as follows:

• 15 percent of respondents said they would give up smoking.

• 15 percent of respondents said they would give up alcoholic beverages.

• 3 percent of respondents said they would give up foul language.

• 39 percent of respondents said they would give up sweets/fatty foods.

• 27 percent of respondents said they would give up something other than what was listed.
