Katie Maddox, a Destrehan High School sophomore, recently won the school’s 2012 English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition. Maddox recited Sonnet 8 and a passage from Hamlet. She represented the school at the district level on Feb. 5 at Tulane University. Even though she didn’t place this year, she enjoyed the experience and hopes to compete again next year.
