BATON ROUGE – Gov. Bobby Jindal recently announced the appointment of Dr. Sidney Tobias Jr. of LaPlace to the State Civil Service Commission.

Tobias is the owner of Tobias Family Dentistry and is the pastor at Hopeful Triumph Baptist Church.

Tobias was nominated by the president of Dillard University to serve as a representative of the 3rd Congressional District, as required by statute, according to a release.

The State Civil Service Commission is an impartial review board that enacts and adjudicates Civil Service Rules to regulate state personnel activities and hears appeals from state employees and agencies.

According to statute, the commission is comprised of seven members, including an employee representative elected by fellow state employees.

The remaining six members are gubernatorial appointments selected from nominations submitted by the presidents of the state’s major private universities.

One member must reside in each congressional district.
