This week, we welcome the month of February. The weather is usually overcast, chilly and rainy. If you’re not into skiing the slopes, ice-skating or singing in the rain, there’s not a lot outside to excite you.

My granddaughter, Monique, and her husband, Frank, will celebrate their first wedding anniversary Feb. 5. That’s right! My daughter and Monique carefully planned the wedding that was scheduled to be an outdoor ceremony. Can you believe they were surprised the night of the rehearsal when it was cold and rainy?

The day of the wedding was no different. The wedding had to be moved indoors.

I’m happy to report the ceremony went well and no one was bothered about the weather.

With all the negatives that February brings, there is something special about the month – Valentine’s Day. Hearts and flowers, sweetheart banquets and the three most wonderful words in the English language …”I love you” are most frequently used.

The greatest explanation on the subject of love is found in I Corinthians 13: 4-7, Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears … believes … hopes … endures all things.”

Three simple words – how often we forget to say them. We assume others know how we feel, and as we grow older we say them even less. I LOVE YOU. Simple, single-syllable words, yet the most powerful words that we should consider saying more often.

Come to think of it – Frank and Monique chose the perfect month to commit their love to each other.
