Look toward the church

More than 150 years ago, foreigners came to America to
see what made it great. It was determined that it wasn’t the farmlands or the industries but the condition of the early churches.
Today, America is looking at the problems that face us. Crime is running rampant, the moral decline in the last few decades has crept into society as an acceptable lifestyle and the economy is almost as bad as the last great depression. People are looking to Washington to find solutions to our many problems, but maybe it’s time to look for the real reason our country is in such turmoil.
I didn’t read the Bible until I got saved at age 45. I always heard that God’s Word has the answer to any trial we may be going through as individuals or a country. This week, I read Revelations 3: 15-16, “I know you well – you are neither hot nor cold; I wish you were one or the other! But since you are merely lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth!”
Years ago, the churches in America were credited, and rightfully so, with making us a great nation. Today, with over 500,000 churches in America, the reason for our problems can be blamed on the churches. We have become lukewarm toward God.
America is in spiritual warfare. Most churches are more focused on church growth and religious practices instead of boldly preaching a relationship with the Savior, Jesus Christ.
The elected officials in Washington, a reflection of the spiritual condition of its people, are also the cause of the problems. How can we expect them to come up with solutions? Maybe it’s time we turn to the Author and Finisher of life Who will give us the wisdom to survive as a nation.
