LAPLACE – River Parishes Hospital welcomed its first baby of the New Year on Jan. 1, 2012, at 1:36 p.m. Eden Adrienne Sherwood weighed 8 pounds, 9.5 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. Her proud parents are Jason and Rachel Sherwood of Ascension Parish, and baby Eden has one older brother named Jude David Sherwood.
Sherwood said she and her husband had planned to spend a quiet day at home New Years Day as baby Eden was scheduled to arrive a few days later on Jan. 4. She said she was in the kitchen cooking early that morning when the contractions started, so she headed to the hospital.
Sherwood said she knew she was going to have a baby girl because this pregnancy was different than her first pregnancy. It was confirmed by her ultrasound. She said she wanted to find out the sex of the baby so she and her husband could prepare their son, Jude, for his new baby sister. When he saw her, he held her and kept kissing her and saying, “That’s my baby.”
Sherwood’s physician is Dr. John McCrossen, an OB/GYN Physician at the Rue de Santé Women’s Center. McCrossen delivered both of Sherwood’s children. “Between myself and my cousins, we keep him busy,” said Sherwood. “My cousin delivered River Parishes Hospital’s first baby of the New Year three years ago.”
Jason Sherwood is a native of LaPlace and Rachel Sherwood is a native of Ascension. The couple resided in LaPlace until they moved to Ascension five months ago.
To make the delivery extra special, the Sherwoods were given a basket filled with gifts from the hospital and area businesses. The basket included a portrait package from Portraits By Susie, a gift card from the Louisiana Federal Credit Union, a gift card from Roussel’s Antiques, restaurant gift cards from the Italian Pie and Wayne Jacob’s Smokehouse and a Wal-Mart gift card from River Parishes Hospital as well as an array of merchandise from the River Parishes Hospital Gift Shop.
