LAPLACE — Detectives in St. John Parish are investigating the parish’s first homicide of the year after a Garyville man was shot and killed Saturday evening.

Deputies responded to calls of gunshots near the intersection of South Fig Street and Daisy Street just after 9 p.m. Saturday and found Kevin Ferrygood, 23, lying in the road with several gunshot wounds, said Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. Ferrygood was pronounced dead at the scene.
