LAPLACE – A 29-year-old LaPlace man was the victim of an armed robbery Wednesday after two men armed with a handgun allegedly forced him to hand over a cell phone.

The incident occurred just after 8:40 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Ormond Boulevard and Oak Allee Drive, said Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

The victim told deputies he was walking on Ormond Boulevard when two men walked up to him. One of the men pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his money.

The victim said he showed the gunman that he had no money. The suspect then demanded the victim give him his cellphone, and the victim complied. The two suspects then fled to a nearby apartment complex. The victim was uninjured during the incident.

The victim said the two men wore black hooded sweat shirts and both subjects were about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighed about 135 pounds, and were between 18 and 24 years old.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives at 985-359-8769.
