Spreading a little Christmas cheer

The students and staff at the St. John Child Development Center in Garyville had pajama day on the last day before Christmas break. On Friday, Dec. 16, the members of the Emily C. Watkins’ Elite Ladies Club wanted to share the true meaning of the holiday season: giving of ourselves. The young ladies read Christmas stories to the students and assisted them in making crafts. This is the second year the ELC members read to the students. When Bernetta Ambres, club sponsor, asked members “How was your experience?” an overwhelming response received from the young ladies was “This was so much fun. We enjoying reading to the children.” “They are so cute that I want to stay and keep working with them.” The mission was accomplished as the young ladies are realizing that when you give to others, you receive so much back by seeing the happy smiles on the children’s faces. The children interacted with the young ladies and the staff enjoyed seeing the children responding to activities with others as they were able to see the skills they’ve taught their students demonstrated.
