The most important game, the game of life

Monday night, LSU and Alabama will play for the National Championship. To participate in this game is the dream of every college football player, but only a few have the opportunity. The winning team gets a trophy, and each player gets a National Championship ring.
In a few weeks, two teams will play in the Super Bowl. The winner will be recognized as the best football team in the world. Again, a trophy will be presented to the winners, and an expensive Super Bowl diamond ring will be awarded to each player.
These games will be viewed by
millions of people and all focusing on two football games – only a
few players but millions of spectators.
I’m reminded of another game that is the most important in everyone’s life in which everyone participates, namely, the game of life. Not all will receive the crown for a life well lived, but the reward will last for eternity.
Following is one of my favorite prayers:
THE GAME OF LIFE
Dear God: Help me to be a good sport in this game of life. I don’t ask for a special place in the lineup. Play me where you need me. I only ask that I can give you 100 percent of everything I have. If all the hard drives come my way, I thank you for the compliment. Help me remember that you never send a player more than he can handle.
And, help me, Lord, to accept the bad breaks as part of the game. May I always play on the square, no matter what the others do. Help make me thankful for me.
Finally, God, if fate seems to be unfair to me and I’m benched for sickness or old age, help me not to whimper or squeal that the game was a frame-up or that I got a raw deal. And when I hear that final bell, I ask for no lying complimentary stones. All I want to hear is, “Well, done, good and faithful servant.”
