St. John should be proud

Ten teams participated in the LHSAA Football State Championship games last weekend at the Superdome. At the start of the 2011 season, 287 teams had visions of being in that number, but only 10 survived.
Of the 10, St. John the Baptist Parish was well represented with the St. Charles Comets and the Rams of West St. John.
The local newspaper’s sport headlines read: “State Champs: Comets bring 3-A Championship home” and “Rams finish as state runner-up.” I agree with Kenneth Delcambre, president of the LHSAA, that all teams must remember they are all winners.
My congratulations to Coach Frank Monica, his staff, the team and the St. Charles Catholic family, on a job well done with a record of 15-0, one of only four undefeated teams in the state.
My hope for the team next year is that Coach Monica will get a little more passionate about his job! (Just kidding)
When I attended the jamboree before the start of the season, West St. John looked like a team that had its problems. I felt a little sorry for Coach Robert Valdez, knowing how fans are.
As the season progressed, the Rams became one of the most exciting teams in the state, especially in Class 1-A.
A tribute to the coaching staff and the young men that wore the blue and white uniforms. Congratulations on a job well done!
State Farm and their agents were the sponsors of this prep classic. St. John was again well represented as Sean Doody, James Wagner Jr. and Mike Williams, all State Farm agents, presented trophies and medals to the winning team and individuals. A great showing that should have made all of St. John proud.
