During Science Expo Day at ESJE, Marathon’s Engineer Victor Garcia (right) helps students (left to right) Malika Jones, Jakolby Crockett, Jah-Nay Sanderson and Johnathan Brown create Alka-Seltzer Rockets. The students combined Alka-Seltzer and water in a film canister. As the water dissolved, the acid and base reacted to form carbon dioxide. As the canister filled with the gas, it forced the cap off to create a rocket. The carbon dioxide is the same gas that is found in soda.
