Nelson Henry “Jake” Jacob, 65, of Jayess, Miss., died Nov. 6, 2011, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace. Entombment with military honors will be in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Cemetery in Destrehan. Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, Miss., is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Jacob was born Aug. 20, 1946, to Henry D. Jacob and Francis Cali Jacob in New Orleans. He was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in McComb and was a diocesan lay minister. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

He was a retired firefighter and EMT for the Hiwassee Dam Fire Department in Murphy, N.C. He also served on the board of directors and became chairman of the board of directors for two years. Mr. Jacob was a retired member of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad in Murphy and an agent for Western & Southern Life Insurance Company in Harahan. He was in the U S Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW in Tylertown, Miss., and LaPlace.

Survivors include his wife, Glenna Bergeron Jacob; stepsons, David Anders and wife Vickie, Mark Anders and wife Dawnell and Paul Anders and wife Paulette; daughters, Nicole Gray and Ondina “Chippy” Trigueros and husband Juan; sister, Martha Breaud; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Jacob was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Ann Jacob.
