EDGARD — West St. John capped its regular season off with a win Wednesday and now awaits the naming of its first playoff opponent.

The Rams toppled Centerville at home, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-16 to finish district play at 2-4.

Tahajenik Howard finished with eight kills and two digs to lead the Lady Rams.

West St. John sat at 21st in the power rankings as of Thursday and will be returning to the playoffs, fulfilling a major preseason goal of the Rams, said Dumas.

“It’s a big plus for us. We’re definitely excited,” said Dumas. “We’re hoping to surprise some people. We haven’t won a playoff game here, and we want to change that. These girls talk to one another about putting a banner up here on that gym wall, and that’s something that begins with that first win.”

Dumas said that for that to happen, his team will have to play with more intensity than it did on Wednesday.

“The tempo wasn’t where it needed to be for us,” he said. “It’s a plus that we were able to get the win. But we really need to better our focus, lift our intensity. To go out there and compete to the best of our abilities and throw the records out the door, no matter whether we’re favored or the underdog. Wednesday, we were just too relaxed.”

West St. John fell on Tuesday to District 5-V co-champion Houma Christian, 25-8, 25-7 and 25-7.

Jennika Jones finished with four digs for the Rams.
