BATON ROUGE — West St. John coach Robert Valdez had to be happy on Friday night; the kind of running game he’s been challenging his team to produce was out in full force in the Rams’ 47-19 win over Ascension Catholic.

Kylum Favorite was the star of the night, putting up a career high 340 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns.

“He made a couple of really big runs,” said Valdez of Favorite. “We’re very happy and excited for him. We really tried to pick up the tempo tonight. We want to control the line and be multiple, and tonight that’s exactly what we were able to do.”

West St. John (5-2, 2-0) held the Bulldogs to minus-seven rushing yards and just 155 total yards.

WSJ rushed for 350 yards overall.

Austin Howard completed eight of his 14 passes for 99 yards and two scores.

The Rams scored 28 first quarter points en route to the win, and allowed just two offensive touchdowns, both coming in the fourth quarter.

Howard connected with Moll from 15 yards out to put WSJ ahead 7-0.

Favorite then got on the board via a 1-yard touchdown plunge, making it 13-0. Howard connected with Austin Terry to make it a three-score game; a Howard pass to Moll for a two-point conversion made it 21-0.

Ascension Catholic (2-5, 0-2) briefly fired back via its defense, as the Bulldogs recovered a fumble in the endzone to make it 21-7. But the Ram defense showed that it could put points on the board as well, as Moll registered a 50-yard interception return for a score.

Bradley Borne added a rushing score and Favorite added two more before the night was done, the latter scoring from 59 and 44 yards away.

West St. John now eyes a huge two-week stand, as it goes on the road next week to face defending state champion White Castle, then returns home for a clash with St. John-Plaquemine. The latter will be broadcast on Cox Sports Television on Thursday, Oct. 27.
