Being bored is not an option this weekend as the River Parishes are offering a unique mix of eclectic events that will likely please residents of all ages.

The packed schedule began Friday night with the opening of the 39th annual Andouille Festival in St. John the Baptist Parish. Today’s schedule features a full slate of live music plus an assortment of activities for children. The festival continues tomorrow with a morning Jazz Brunch, more live music in the evening and, for the first time, a Gospel Music Tent with performances all afternoon. Daily admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children under 12.

This afternoon also marks the opening of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society’s performance of the children’s musical “Petit Rouge,” a Cajun retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood.” Today’s shows will be at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee tomorrow. Early performances for students in St. John Parish were met with lots of loud laughter. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under

For fans of late ‘60s and early ‘70s rock music, the locally popular Reserve band Image will be performing a reunion show tonight at 9 p.m. at San Francisco Plantation in Garyville. The band, which got its start in 1966, broke up in 1975, but all of the members stayed in touch. General admission tickets are $20.

In St. James Parish Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie will be holding its sixth annual Fall Arts and Crafts Festival. The festival is open today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children 6 – 12. All proceeds will be used for the preservation, upkeep and maintenance of Oak Alley Plantation.

With all that is happening this weekend, there is no excuse for anyone not to get out and enjoy what the region has to offer.
