LUTCHER — Lutcher continued its roll through District 6-4A, as it had little trouble with Istrouma Friday night, topping the Indians 56-6.

Lutcher led 35-6 after the first quarter and 42-7 at halftime.

The Bulldogs (5-1, 3-0) scored three times within the first 3:10 of game action. The first came on the very first play of the game, on Ruston Matherne’s 37-yard pass to Daniel Taylor to make it 7-0.

At the 9:20 mark of the first quarter, Taylor scored again, this time on a 3-yard run. Matherne struck again only 30 seconds of gametime later, hitting Jared Poche for a 12-yard touchdown.

Istrouma (0-6, 0-3) would finally answer at the 7:10 mark of the opening frame, when Trevon Holmes scooped a fumble and returned it 57 yards for a touchdown. But that was a brief blip; Matherne scored on an 8-yard run, then Poche passed to Spencer Roussel for a 9-yard touchdown to make it 35-6 at the end of one; Matherne’s 4-yard second quarter run made it a 35-point lead at halftime.

Taylor finished with 117 rushing yards on just five carries. He added 41 yards on two receptions. Poche added a rushing score and Sully Martin caught the last of Matherne’s three touchdown passes.

Lutcher recovered four of Istrouma’s six fumbles, while committing two turnovers of its own. It outgained the Indians 283-96.
