LAPLACE – River Parishes Hospital and the St. John Council On Aging held a Senior Health Fair at the St. John Council On Aging Activities Center in Reserve. Nearly 70 seniors attended the fair and took advantage of the array of health screenings that were available, including blood sugar, blood pressure, vision, fracture risk and mobility rating. Participants were also given vouchers for a complimentary lipid profile at the hospital’s new Outpatient Laboratory Draw Station.

Dr. Kiernan Smith, a family medicine physician on staff at River Parishes Hospital, spoke to the group about sexual dysfunction in the elderly while they enjoyed a catered lunch. Information about additional health-related topics were distributed as well as information about the hospital’s Senior Friends Program.

River Parishes Hospital hosts this yearly health fair in order to promote a healthier lifestyle among the seniors in our community. The hospital also has a Senior Friends Program where its members receive discounts in the hospital cafeteria and gift shop, in the Fit At 50 exercise classes and at several local businesses in the River Parishes area. In addition, members receive valuable health, wellness and travel discounts through the National Association of Senior Friends.
