Ascension Community Theatre

Ascension Community Theatre’s Second Stage announces their upcoming Children’s Summer Workshop. The workshop runs for five days, Monday, June 6, through Friday, June 10, 8 a.m. – noon, at Historic Pasqua Theater, 823 Felicity St., Gonzales, with a presentation of five 10-minute productions written and performed by the participants on Friday, June 10, at noon.

Jes Hawley, the Talented Theatre Teacher for Ascension Parish, will be directing the workshop. Hawley holds a BA in Performance Theatre from LSU and has been involved in many productions both onstage and backstage, at LSU, ACT and other area theatre groups.

In a nurturing environment of support and encouragement, a unique experience will be offered for your child to be involved with the creation of an original 10-minute one-act play. Participants will be divided into five groups, each with an adult facilitator acting as their theatre guide. As well as being exposed to all aspects of stagecraft, each group will write, direct and perform a one-act play. This process offers each child the opportunity to discover what it truly means to create theatre and experience a different, creative way of putting their thoughts and feelings into a product. In a collaborative effort, where each participant will be encouraged to work with and support their teammates, the workshop will engender self-confidence, cooperation and will help each child find a new way of expressing themselves.

Enrollment is limited to 40 participants and registration will conclude on May 30. Enrollment is not guaranteed unless an email confirmation is received. No refunds. For enrollment, contact Philippe Radelet by calling 225-921-1209 or email pradelet@cox.net.
