LAPLACE – Edgard native Carolyn “Cat” Johnson has announced her intention to seek the District 1 seat on the St. John the Baptist Parish Council in the Oct. 22 general election.
Haston Lewis currently holds the seat, which represents all of the west bank and some southernmost parts of the east bank. Lewis is eligible to run for re-election, but he has not yet made any formal announcement.
Johnson, 59, works as a data retrieval specialist and document clerk at the Monsanto Plant in Luling. She has also worked as a document specialist at Dow Chemical in Luling and a human resource representative for Cytec Industries in Jefferson Parish. Johnson is also currently active in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Altar Society in Edgard.
In an announcement released Monday, Johnson said she is eager to encourage growth and positive change in District 1 and always willing to listen to the needs of the residents.
Johnson said her main objective is to be visible and attentive to all constituents of the district.
“I know that I cannot make changes alone, but together we can do it,” said Johnson, whose campaign slogan is “Let’s Do It Together!”
Qualifying for all races in the Oct. 22 election begins Sept. 6.
