Thirty-seven members of River Parishes Hospital’s Senior Friends Program took a chartered bus trip to New Orleans to enjoy lunch and a tour of Longue Vue House and Gardens followed by a tour of the New Orleans Museum of Art and Sculpture Gardens.

Longue Vue House is one of the last great houses to be custom-built in America, consisting of three stories and a basement, which is uncommon in this area. Members learned about the furnishings in the house, including English and American antiques, modern and contemporary art and British and continental potteries. Members were also guided through the beautifully landscaped gardens which integrate both indoor and outdoor spaces. After lunch, members traveled to the New Orleans Museum of Art and Sculpture Gardens for a tour of the city’s oldest fine arts institution which houses more than 40,000 objects.

The chartered bus trips are just a few of the many activities available to seniors through the hospital’s Senior Friends Program. Members also receive discounts in the hospital cafeteria and gift shop, in the Fit At 50 exercise classes, and at several local businesses in the River Parishes area. In addition, members receive valuable health, wellness and travel discounts through the National Association of Senior Friends.
