Anna Louise Guarino Fortino, 89, a native of Ensley, Ala., and a resident of LaPlace since 1959, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at her residence. She was a member of Ascension of our Lord Church and the Ladies Altar Society in addition to being a member of K.C. Auxiliary of St. Joan of Arc Church.

Anne enjoyed cooking for family and friends and especially enjoyed preparing traditional delicacies for the St. Joseph’s Altar. Anne was known for her whirlwind pace and was in her element when planning and organizing social gatherings for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rose Guarino of Birmingham, Ala.; her husband, Eugene J. Fortino Sr.; and her brothers, Anthony Guarino and Jasper Green of Alabama.

She is survived by her sons: Michael J. Fortino of Summerdale, Ala., and Eugene J. Fortino Jr. of LaPlace; her daughters: Madeliene F. Brumfield of Jalisco, Mexico; Anita F. Granier of Mayfield, Ky.; and Tia F. Duhe of LaPlace; her sisters: Madelene Russo and JoAnn Leon of Birmingham, Ala.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and four step-grandchildren.

Visitation and services were held at Ascension of Our Lord Church Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Father Walter Austin served as officiant. Interment followed in the St. Peter Church cemetery. Arrangements were by Millet-Guidry Funeral Home of LaPlace.

The Fortino Family would like to thank family and friends for their support and prayers. Also a special thanks to St. Catherine’s Hospice, Visiting Angels, Family Home Care nurses, Bobbie Scioneaux and Angela Anderson.
