LAPLACE – The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office held a ladies’ self-defense class on Feb. 8.

The class was held at the St. John Parish public library on Louisiana Highway 51, and 25 people participated.

Two films were shown, and the women received information on how to protect themselves. During the last part of the class they were shown different ways to protect themselves if attacked.

According to Lt. Wayne Norwood, who led the class, some of the women who showed up for the class had to be turned away because of lack of space, but he is planning another class around the beginning of April.
