Homer Smith Fairchild, 98, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve. He was born in Salyersville, Ky., and graduated from Georgetown College. He was a teacher at Salyersville High School for seven years, where he met his future wife. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in Italy, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He was married 55 years to Anna Magill Fairchild and worked as a chemist at Dekuyper Division of National Distillers Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio, for 34 years.
He was the son of the late Dora and Louis G. Fairchild and was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anna, brother Herschel, and sister, Ida Kazee.
He is survived by a son, Phillip Fairchild, and daughter-in-law, Janet Fairchild.
He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a wonderful father as well as a kind, good-natured, witty man.
Visitation and funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home. He will be laid to rest in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Cincinnati, Ohio.
