The final LHSAA reclassification proposal was released this week, making the River Region teams’ new district homes official for the next two seasons.
Unlike the previous proposal which was thought to set East St. John, Destrehan and Hahnville back in the “Bayou District”, the River Parish trio will now share District 8-5A with Bonnabel, John Ehret and Higgins.
In Class 4A, Lutcher gets an entirely new slate of foes. Belaire, Broadmoor, Istrouma, Plaquemine, St. Michael and Tara will share District 6-4A with the Bulldogs.
Things proceed as expected for St. Charles and St. James, which will share District 7-3A with Donaldsonville, Brusly, Port Allen and E.D. White.
Riverside will be classified in District 10-2A with Carver, Clark, Curtis, Haynes, McGehee and Priestly Charter – but football teams in that district will be combined with District 9-2A football schools.
That district includes perennial Rebel rival Newman as well as South Plaquemines, Fisher and Thomas Jefferson.
West St. John maintains its district from this season.
It shares District 9-1A with Ascension Catholic, Ascension Christian, White Castle, East Iberville and St. John-Plaquemine.
