Holiday shopping more than buying gifts

The holiday season is upon
us.
Every year it sneaks up, and before you know it you are in the midst of a whirlwind of eating, parties and, of course, shopping. And really, it’s that last one that makes the season seem like such a hassle.
Thinking of the perfect gift can be such a task in itself that doing all holiday shopping online can seem like a tempting option. But to do so would be cheating yourself, the person receiving the gift and area merchants.
Beyond the crush of Black Friday, shopping during the holiday season can be an uplifting experience. Most shops are decked out in green and red, and the workers often seem to be filled with holiday cheer. That cheer can be contagious.
Furthermore, even if the person receiving the gift never knows it, putting that personalized effort into your gift buying is worth it. Shopping online cannot compare to actually holding an item in your hands to know if it is indeed what you are looking for. Besides, you never know if you find something even better right on the same shelf.
Lastly, our local merchants — your friends and neighbors — need your business. Pumping
your hard-earned dollars back into the local economy will ensure the community stays vibrant
and its residents stay employed. It just may be the most important gift you give this holiday season.
