The St. James Parish Litter Awareness Board, in partnership with parish officials and the Sheriff’s Office, is sponsoring an electronic recycling event, scheduled for today from 8 a.m. to noon. The event  will be held at the Golden Grove Truck Stop located at the corner of Louisiana Highway 3125 and Louisiana Highway 641 in Gramercy.

Electronics such as monitors, stereos, telephone cables and cartridges are just a few of the items that will be accepted. Appliances, copiers, televisions and furniture will not be accepted.

All items will be resurfaced for security purposes and turned over to Capitol Area Corporate Recycling out of Baton Rouge. Some items may be refurbished and then sold to non-profit agencies or businesses to benefit those who are less fortunate.

Items that are beyond repair will be sent to a recycling center in Houston.

This is a free service for all residents and businesses that participate in the event.
