Paper recognizes achievements, efforts

Each Wednesday, L’Observateur recognizes individuals and businesses in the River Parishes who have gone “above and beyond” in their efforts to make this a better place to live, work, play and raise a family.
—Teachers at East St. John High School in Reserve for their involvement in the Wildcat Success Academy to accelerate the advancement of students who have fallen behind in their studies. The program is helping over age students at the school get where they need to be in their classes.
—Firefighters from across St. John and St. Charles Parishes for their recent work with young students in the area in the realm of fire safety. Firefighters visited several area schools to teach children how to dial 911, use a fire escape and recognize smoke detectors.
—Vacherie Dentist Dr. James Stafford for his recent donation to Bayou Land Families Helping Families. Stafford encouraged
his patients and other members
of the community to undergo a
teeth whitening procedure
with all proceeds going to the charity.
—The St. Charles Catholic High School Cross Country team for earning the 2010 district title with a recent win over
John Curtis Christian School in River Ridge. The Comets had lost to the Patriots three previous times this year before finally getting the best of them when it counted.
