LAPACE – Amanda Flores Morgan and Jessica Eschette McDaniel graduated from St. Charles Catholic High School together in 2001 and subsequently attended Louisiana State University. Recently, the duo wrote and published their first children’s book, “Goodnight Tigers.”
“Goodnight Tigers” is a captivating bedtime story that provides children with an introduction to Louisiana State University. The book is reminiscent of the beloved classic, “Goodnight Moon,” and pays tribute to all things LSU. It combines simple rhymes and engaging illustrations that create a guided tour of the university. From the loud cheers of Tiger Stadium to the tranquil lakes, each page invites the reader to explore LSU while discovering interesting facts along the way.
Written and illustrated by LSU alumni, the book conveys the true spirit of LSU and encourages young readers to become alumni, too. “Goodnight Tigers” is officially licensed by Louisiana State University, and Morgan and McDaniel have been reading their book to many schools in the River Parishes in order to educate and encourage kids to attend college and to get them excited about their state school.
“We encourage them to follow their dreams and find something they are passionate about,” Morgan said. “Jessica and I grew up in Louisiana and have a
passion for the culture and people here. We loved our years at LSU and want our children to grow up learning about the unique traditions found at LSU and in the state of Louisiana.”
Morgan and McDaniel married best friends from Georgia and remain devoted Tiger fans while living in Bulldog territory. Their hope for this book is that all future Tigers will come to know the exciting traditions found at LSU.
Morgan grew up in Destrehan, receiving a Bachelors of Interior Design from Louisiana State University. She and her husband, Diskin, currently live in Douglas, Ga.
McDaniel graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education. She was raised in LaPlace and currently resides in Douglas, Ga. with her husband, Matt, and their son, Conley.
Morgan and McDaniel will have a book signing at St. Charles Catholic High School during the homecoming game against Thomas Jefferson on Friday, Oct. 29. Their book “Goodnight Tigers” sells for $20 and $5 from each book sold during homecoming will go toward SCC’s SOAR drive.
Pre-orders are being taken through the front office at SCC and will be available for pick-up on Nov. 2.
