WALLACE – Two west bank civic organizations, Black Queens United and Girls in Action, joined together last weekend to fight a common foe. With most of the crowd in Wallace Park donning bright pink T-shirts, their enemy was clear — breast cancer.
According to Girl in Action President Krischell Thomas, over 200 community members showed up for the one-mile walk Saturday morning to raise awareness about the disease.
“It was beautiful,” said Thomas.
After the walk, the mostly female group gathered together in the park for refreshments and camaraderie as well as to hear from breast cancer survivors. Thomas said 14 breast cancer survivors were present for Saturday’s activity.
It was the first time the group had attempted such a rally, but based on its success, it surely will not be the last.
