LAPLACE – This month, the color pink has been everywhere.

The reason for all this pink, of course, is that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Although October has been designated as such for the past quarter century, this year the efforts to raise awareness seem to enjoy a higher profile than in previous years. As such, last week L’Observateur asked visitors to its website which of those efforts were most effective in their eyes.

With nearly two-thirds of the vote, free cancer screenings gained the most support.

Efforts from organizations such as the NFL came in second with just under one-fifth of the vote.

Rounding out the answers were walks and other fundraisers and related news coverage, which each garnered slightly less than 10 percent of the vote.

A full breakdown of responses follows:

• 18 percent of respondents chose “Organizations such as the NFL wearing pink.”

• 9 percent of respondents chose “Walks and other fundraising activities.”

• 64 percent of respondents chose “Free breast cancer screenings.”

• 9 percent of respondents chose “Related news coverage.”
